Waiting for the World to Change
Upwards of 72,000 of the world’s elite climate scientists, assorted activists and comely aides are about to descend upon Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), for a world-class hootenanny known as COP28.
It is the 28th Conference of Parties (COP) to be held as part of an international treaty called the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), which was established at the Earth Summit in Brazil in 1992. Its aim is to tackle the negative impacts human activity has on the environment, especially greenhouse gas emissions. (New Scientist)
The importance of these events is evidenced not only by the celebrities in attendance but also by the guests that celebrities sponsor. It was not a COP event, but Bill Clinton did send Kathleen Willey to a biodiversity conference in Indonesia when it was deemed that it would be wise to exfiltrate Willey to an exotic location for a period after she had allegedly been groped by Clinton in the Oval. Money and free travel to paradisiacal destinations talk, or rather, stop the talking.
The White House arranged for her to go to two international conferences and in a scrawled note to an aide about a request from Willey, the president asked:
"Can we do this for her?"
In a three-page letter to Clinton in December 1995 which she signed "Fondly, Kathleen," Willey thanked Clinton for letting her attend a biological diversity convention in Indonesia.
Clinton's written response: "Thanks, too, for your continued desire to serve the Administration."
Gender and Inclusion
It must be remembered that COP28 does not only benefit the rich and powerful WEF-types. The Euros trickle down in the form of high-paying jobs for the hoi polloi. Dubai’s high-end hookers do well in the worst of times, but the pleasure fees will be off the charts during COP, and although prostitution is technically illegal in Dubai, no COPS will dare to interrupt these extra-curricular activities.
At the highest end of the trade, women of model quality body and looks (the old-fashioned kind, not sized-up Lizzo types) can arrange to fly to Dubai for weekend assignations that allegedly bring up to a million dollars in compensation if one is willing to provide the Dubai Porta Potty experience (Warning: NSFW or for the squeamish or for the easily repulsed). TikTok model influencers allegedly advertise their availability through TikTok videos and through their Instagram accounts.
Lest you think that COP28 is just a job-generator for sex workers, keep in mind that instituting the recommendations of the COPPERS leads to an oozing downward of jobs for the masses as well. Cobalt is in such high demand for EV and other batteries that will be required in our COP-endorsed all-electric world that mining is undergoing a boom in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and elsewhere. Mining, of course, is frowned upon in the West. Westerners would much rather export the mess and pollution of mineral mining so that they can buy a subsidized EV, get a tax break and feel good about themselves for driving a vehicle that is emission-free—once it is parked in their driveway, that is.
Sophia Kianni, Rookie of the Year?
If you have not been ensconced in Muhammad’s cave for the last decade, you will be familiar with Climate Catastrophist Child Guru, Greta Thunberg. Although Greta has finally finished high school and is showing signs of post-pubescent allure, there is a new kid on the scene who is challenging the Climate Queen for the green celebrity spotlight. Sophia Kianni, whom some are calling Greta II, is emerging as a rapidly rising climate activist star.
In addition to her friendship with Guterres, Sophia is pals with Phoebe Gates (yes, that Gates). In fact, they have started a business together in their spare time away from climate activism.

Last night, Stella McCartney and Phia co-founders, Sophia Kianni and Phoebe Gates, hosted an exclusive event at the British brand’s New York City boutique to preview their limited edition ‘Frayme’ bag collaboration—honouring female entrepreneurship, and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Women’s Tennis Assocation (WTA).

The two vegan leather Frayme bags will officially launch on 21 September and be available exclusively at Stella McCartney’s New York City boutique. Guests enjoyed signature tequila cocktails provided by Casa Dragones and music by Jade Croo.
The collaboration is proud to support the WTA Foundation* and its mission of empowering girls and women worldwide.
*As an ironic side note, Extinction Rebellion, with which Sophia Kianni has been associated, disrupted the U.S. (Tennis) Open to protest inaction on climate change. Presumably, Sophia was not part of this demonstration. One can imagine what the WTA thought about the disruption. One also wonders what Sophia thought about that.

There is also good news on the food and drink front for those of you who are into saving the planet by exterminating cattle and carnivores.
Our focus at COP28 UAE is on delivering environmentally sustainable, socially responsible, delicious, and nutritious food and beverage. This is a key priority for the Presidency, and we are striving to show the world how climate-friendly food can be tasty, healthy and affordable.
We aim to cater for all dietary needs, ensuring two-thirds of the menus are vegan or vegetarian. Working with Nutritics, we aim to ensure that 50% of the food served within sustainable limits for carbon and water intensity and is within UAE nutritional guidelines. We are working with our F&B vendors and waste management partners to ensure minimizing waste and packaging through compositing and recycling is a priority.
We understand that this is a big challenge. An estimated 250,000 meals will be served to more than 70,000 participants across 70+ food and beverage outlets during COP28’s two-week program. But by working in close collaboration with our partners and promoting the use of local and regional suppliers, our catering aims to respect, embrace, and exemplify the values of the UNFCCC and UAE, simultaneously celebrating the nation’s rich culture and hospitality.
So, all in all, the whole thing sounds like great fun for almost all. If you are not the frolicsome type and are looking for something more substantive, I might suggest something along the lines of a conference similar to World Nuclear Exhibition Day that
is attending at the moment.
There are many highly intelligent and qualified women in the field of nuclear energy. If you like your activists Sophia Kianni-style, it’s worth knowing that the current Miss America, Grace Stanke, is a nuclear engineering student, not to mention a violinist.
I believe along with physicists like William Happer and Richard Lindzen, emeriti professors at Princeton and M.I.T. respectively, that CO2 is not the control knob on the global thermostat. For those who are concerned about CO2 emissions, however, the only way to significantly reduce them and also have cheap, reliable and non-weather-dependent electricity is through the use of nuclear power. It is one of life’s great mysteries why climate catastrophists, who abhor CO2 emissions, are opposed to nuclear that emits zero CO2. Is it humans that they are really against—non private jet owning humans, that is? Are they neo-Malthusians?
Whatever, I choose to COP OUT of COP28, as I have copped out of COPs 1-27. One thing I am sure of is that among the empty slogans and cleverly worded evasions that will emerge at the conference, there will be no declaration agreeing to phase out coal. At COP26 in Glasgow, a last minute compromise on coal had to be reached in order to avoid scuttling progress made at the conference. It was grudgingly agreed to accept the language to phase down, rather than phase out coal. Predictably, climate change sociopaths were outraged.
Despite the fact that the U.S. and Europe have reduced coal consumption, coal production is at record levels, largely because of the rapidly increasing building of coal-fired power plants in India and China. Part of the explanation is that western countries have driven up the price of natural gas to such a degree that these countries can no longer afford it. So, coal is an especially cheap and dependable alternative.
Then there is Robert Bryce’s (@pwrhungry) Iron Law of Electricity: people will do anything to get it—and not just the trickle that the world’s NGOs are insisting on through their attempted imposition of unreliables on the Third World’s poor. Their reply? You first, as Doomberg (@DoombergT) puts it. If getting cheap, reliable electricity means burning coal, so be it. Poor nations are not going to go without in order to satisfy the delusional back-to-nature energy fanasies of First World billionaires whose idea of roughing it in nature is being on deck of their football-pitch-size yachts.
If the soft on coal issue irritates the Just Stop OIl or Extinction Rebellion crowd, I would suggest thinking twice before traveling to Dubai and gluing an opposable thumb to some public monument in opposition to insufficient anti-fossil fuel fervor on the part of conference attendees. Dubai is neither San Francisco nor London. They enforce the law there and do not look the other way when hooligans are inconveniencing the general public.
You are likely to lose more than your thumb. Usually, the entire hand goes with it. If you contemplate playing the gay or trans card, that will surely seal your fate, despite what you may be seeing on TikTok of jubilant gays converting to Islam. You may get a complimentary tour of the rooftops of Dubai, however. Count your blessings.
